Hello Farm Friends!

Do you feel that sunshine? Spring is almost here. And that means farm days are coming right up... It's time to get out!

This Coming Saturday, March 20

It's still very early, but I thought it would be good to open the invite for a project this coming Saturday to help us prepare for asparagus season.

We need to move all the irrigation pipes and deer fencing out of the asparagus field so that we can do the annual cultivation by tractor that kicks off the asparagus harvest.

The asparagus is still sleeping for it's long nap. That means we need to be very, very quiet while working... no, no, just kidding! You can't wake the asparagus up that way. But when it does wake up, it will be ready to go, go, go. What would you be ready to do if you just got done sleeping for 5 months straight? You get the idea.

Come join us Saturday, March 20 after lunch about 1 PM if you can make it. If not, don't worry. We have plenty of upcoming projects from April and into June. This Saturday's project is not a big job. We should have it all done in a couple of hours at the very most.

New Farm Friends Tour and Orientation

We have added quite a few new people to the Farm Friends group since the last e-mail. I will use this opportunity to give a tour of the farm to help orient the new friends to what is going on here at the farm. Those who come out can see the asparagus in its dormant, sleeping state, which is quite different than how it will be during the coming season.

The transformationis amazing to watch, and this event will give an opportunity for the new Farm Friends to see how things begin as winter winds down.

Bonfire Social

After we clear the asparagus field to prep for the tractor, I will have a bonfire for everyone to enjoy (weather permitting). If the weather is terrible, we can gather in the greenhouse.

Make sure you bring lawn chairs and your favorite beverages and snacks. Every once in awhile, cigars have been known to show up to events like this. You never know.

This will be a time to get to know each other a little bit. We can hang out. I would also like to hear from each of you what you would like to grow in our summer veggie season. This knowledge will help me better prepare for our upcoming May planting season so that we can match what we grow to what is needed.

Please respond to this e-mail if you plan to come out Saturday afternoon and how many will be coming. That response will help me plan appropriately for the number who show up.

Farm Day Work List

Here is a brief list of items for our new farm friends to consider bringing on a farm work day:

1) Water, snacks, and possibly a cooler to keep it chilled.
2) Hat and sunglasses.
3) Lunch if you plan to spend the whole day with us.
4) Mosquito repellent during mosquito season.
5) Your favorite work gloves.
6) Lawn chair for hanging out

Directions

We are located about 15-20 minutes south of Whitehall near the Jefferson River in Waterloo. We are sort of between Whitehall and Twin Bridges off of MT Highway 55.

Our physical address is 27 Gornick Lane, Whitehall, which should get you close.

**Special Note** Our driveway comes in from Carney Lane, so drive past Gornick Lane and take the first driveway on the right, through the double green gates. It is a long driveway and the farm is behind the large sod field and pasture. You can see a cabin from Carney Lane in the distance. That is the farm.

Blessings,

Tim Martin
